How does an 80″ image on a wall from only 3″ away sound?  I spoke with a church who needed an ultra-short throw image, and I pointed them to this projector.  They will probably be the first church I know of to use this ultra-short throw projector as an architectural projector.

This projector isn’t terribly new to the market, but I just kept forgetting to post it.  I can’t wait to see all the applications for this projector.  It’s perfect for a classroom where the teacher needs to interact with the information on the screen, but not block it by standing in front of the projector.

If money were no object, I’d have twelve of these embedded in my ceiling, three shining on each wall of my living room.  Where would I like to sit and work today?  The beach?   A mountain side?  Maybe one day!  I see tech like this coming into homes soon.

Here are the specs from Sanyo’s site:

  • True XGA (1024 x 768) Resolution
  • 2000 ANSI Lumens (I’m pretty sure they have a 2700AL model now)
  • 600:1 Contrast Ratio
  • 4:3 Aspect Ratio
  • World’s Shortest Throw Distance
  • New Optical Engine for Vertical and Horizontal Projection
  • Versatile Applications
  • Adapts Easily to Different Projection Surfaces
  • Easy Set-up and Removal
  • Anti-Theft Alarm

Is this a top down projected back on to the wall . . . like a cyc unit almost ?

Is that an ok contrast ratio ? I don’t remember my ratios very well, but that seams like it’s on the low side.

I assume that the image is smooth and evenly bright from top to bottom ?

That looks like an amazing piece of technology. There is a mod you can do using a wii mote (not the wii, just the wii mote) and an inferred LED to make the projector image an interactive desktop . . . this would be PERFECT for that.

The guys name is Johnny Chung Lee and he has three projects that use the wii mote for cool stuff. The one I’m talking about is the second one down on this page (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/). I’ve wanted to do this, but we don’t have a Sunday School class that needs this technology enough to warrant doing it.

You could have it positioned any way you wish I believe, but yes think of it like a cyc light washing up or down instead of a ellispoidal (or projector) shining from straight on.

The contrast ratio isn’t great per-say, but for where it will be used it will probably be ok. I would think they need to increase brightness first because of the high-level room lighting needed in the applications they market to.

I saw that Wii mod! Very cool!

We just got some of these for small conference rooms at our trade shows and they work great!
Sanyo had one set up in their booth at Infocomm shooting up thru a 4′4′ frosted glass coffee table – you could gather people around your presentation or use it for google maps.

Can you point me in the direction of which church installed this projector? We have the exact same issue and are looking for something of this nature. As you can imagine, we are hesitant to buy a projector with a lower brightness spec as our other projectors are around 12,000 lumens. I would like to see it in action if possible. We are in the North Houston area…
